Medic First Aid, CPR and AED training is
designed specifically for the occupational
first aid provider. This extremely valuable
program will help employers comply with
OSHA and other federal and state regulatory
requirements for training employees
on how to respond and care for medical
emergencies at work.
Two-year certification cards are issued upon
completion of this course.

Intended Audience: This course is for any adult who wishes to
become certified in First Aid/CPR/AED, especially those charged
with the responsibility to respond in an emergency.

 

Rough Terrain Forklift Operator Training

Rough terrain forklift training vividly impresses
upon the students the necessity for safety in all
aspects of lift truck operations and procedures.

The safety standards reviewed in detail include
graphic illustrations of the personal and economic
dangers inherent in the use of forklift
equipment. The step-by-step progression of
this training is designed to provide the student
with the knowledge and skills to become a safe
and professional forklift operator
. This is the
classroom portion of the total training requirement
for rough terrain forklifts.

Intended Audience: This course is intended for all individuals on a
jobsite who may be charged with operating a forklift at any time.

See How Your Area Fared - Construction Employment Increases in 265 Metros from November 2017 to November 2018

On December 27th, the AGC of America's Chief Economist, Ken Simonson, released the November 2018 construction employment numbers for the 358 metro areas across the US. The State of Wisconsin saw a year-over-year increase of 7 percent, the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis MSA area saw a 3 percent increase in construction employment. Of the remaining Wisconsin metro areas, Eau Claire (10%) and Green Bay (8%) saw the largest gains, while Appleton (3%) and La Crosse-Onalaska (0%) grew the slowest or were flat.

Contractors Expect Continued Strong Demand in 2019

Construction companies are still clamoring for talent as they expect another year of strong demand for construction projects, according to a trade group’s survey released on Wednesday.

Although 79 percent of the construction firms polled as part of a more than month-long survey by the Associated General Contractors of America said they planned to hire new workers in 2019, a nearly equal percentage said they were concerned about finding qualified workers.

This continued hand-wringing over talent comes as companies compete for work amid a wave of development. Many of the companies that responded to the AGC’s poll said they expect steady or rising demand for construction projects in the next year, but that they expect to be hindered by things like the recently imposed federal tariffs, which have pushed up the price of construction materials.

In its latest survey, the AGC received responses from about 1,300 contractors, including 313 in the Midwest and 31 in Wisconsin. The trades organization began surveying companies on Nov. 7 and received responses through Dec. 17. Stephen Sandherr, AGC’s CEO, noted that the survey period ended before the federal government was shut down after federal officials were unable to reach a budget compromise.

“Construction executives appear to remain confident about their market prospects for 2019 and plan to add headcount to cope with the added workload,” Sandherr said. “Even as they are optimistic about growing demand, contractors are concerned about finding qualified workers to execute projects.”

Firms expect plenty of work in 2019

AGC’s national survey found contractors were optimistic about their prospects in each of the 13 business sectors that were asked about in the survey, said Ken Simonson, AGC chief economist. The AGC asked contractors about demand for work on projects like K-12 schools, highways and industrial sites.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Foxconn, Election, Building Boom Make 2018 One for the History Books!

Perhaps more so than any other year in recent memory, 2018 was momentous for the construction industry in Wisconsin.

Among other things, this year saw work begin on the biggest construction project in state history — the $10 billion factory Foxconn Technology Group is building in Mount Pleasant — even as a historic building boom continued to transform Milwaukee and other cities. Meanwhile, new federal tariffs and a seemingly endless labor shortage drove up materials prices and wages. And disaster struck in the forms of explosions in Superior and Sun Prairie and flooding in Dane County and western parts of the state.

But arguably the biggest story for contractors was one with ramifications extending well beyond the industry’s narrow interests: the defeat of Gov. Scott Walker by Tony Evers in November.

WALKER DEFEATED

Was Walker’s rejection by voters the result of his transportation policies rather than fallout from his ill-fated presidential campaign or his alliance with President Donald Trump? Probably not.

But that’s not for a lack of trying by a handful of organizations and officials that repeatedly chastised the two-term Republican for what they contended was poor transportation planning.

On one side, Walker was battered by the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin’s “Just Fix It” campaign, which argued that the governor’s policies had overburdened the state with debt. On the other, he was lampooned in print, on billboards and on the radio by a “Scott-holes” advertising blitz blaming him directly for the deterioration of state roads. Advocate Aurora Aims to Power Facilities with Renewable Electricity by 2030
Will use on-site, off-site and puchased renewable electricity to meet goal
Advocate Aurora Health has set a goal of powering its facilities with 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030, the health system announced today.

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.

The health system said it will evaluate the financial feasibility of adding on-site renewable energy to all major construction and renovation projects over the next decade. Advocate Aurora said it will likely use a combination of on-site, off-site and purchased renewable electricity to meet its goal, paired with energy efficiency efforts to lower overall energy demand among its facilities.

The health system operates 27 hospitals and more than 500 outpatient sites, stretching from northwest Wisconsin to central Illinois.

“Clean power produces clean air, and clean air helps save lives,” said Bill Santulli, chief operations officer of Advocate Aurora Health. “This commitment builds upon our strong track record of leadership in sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
