Over 200 Construction Professionals Helped us Acknowledge Industry Leaders at The Past Presidents' and Awards Night! |
Thank you to Everyone who Sponsored |
What an amazing night!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in recognizing our past leadership and congratulating all the award winners at The AGC Past Presidents’ and Awards Night! Attendees of the Past Presidents’ and Awards Night enjoyed a great networking forum, a gourmet dinner and watched our renewed awards ceremony at the always beautiful Wisconsin Cub.
We had tremendous support this year, with over 200 industry professionals in attendance. Because of all of the great participation, we had to add the room next to the Grand Ballroom for our Networking Cocktail Hour!

Along with recognizing Supervisory Training Program (STP) graduates and Safety Leaders, the AGC presented a number of individual awards to exceptional construction professionals.
Harvey Peterson Award - Todd Cook , Pieper Electric
The Harvey Peterson Award was named for an individual who embraced construction industry safety long before the rest of the industry recognized how important safety was. Harvey Peterson, a valued and longtime member of the C.G. Schmidt Construction family truly wished for each and every construction worker to return home safely every night and dedicated his career to raising safety awareness throughout the industry.
Todd has earned this recognition because, like Harvey Peterson, he has a keen understanding of the importance of construction safety, and more importantly ensuring that everyone on the job has the knowledge and the tools necessary to create the safest working environment possible. He has been a leader in advocating for better safety conditions and increased safety training.
Associate of the Year Award - Kevin Higgs, Langer Roofing & Sheet Metal
Kevin has been actively involved with AGC through his vital role as the Chief Instructor of the Supervisory Training Program.
In that capacity he has served as an outstanding teacher and mentor for the hundreds of individuals who have graduated with an STP Certification. Like many great teachers, he is immensely respected for his dedication and commitment to his students.
Gil Czaplewski Superintendent of the Year Award - Brian Tanguay, Kotze Construction.
Serving as a construction Superintendent requires a knack for scheduling, an eye for detail, the ability to keep calm under pressure and a never-ending dedication and commitment to quality and professionalism. When a Superintendent does his job well, the entire project team benefits and takes notice. Brian has a long history of experience in collaboration and decision making, and has been acknowledged for his leadership skills by those working with him.
Pioneer of the Year Award - Mark Sherry, Mortenson Construction
The Pioneer of the Year Award is given to an individual whose name is well-recognized and respected in the Milwaukee construction industry. This individual’s long-time commitment and dedication to the AGC and the industry is unsurpassed. It is an honor that is given to an individual who has continually placed himself at the center of important industry initiatives and who has been working to improve the construction industry for many, many years.
Skill, Integrity and Responsibility (S.I.R.) Award - Chad Bathke, VJS Construction Services
The S.I.R. Award recognizes the dedication and commitment of an individual to the tenets that underlie what the AGC is all about…namely SKILL, INTEGRITY and RESPONSIBILITY. The individual being honored tonight has spent countless hours on the betterment of the AGC and the Construction community. His leadership as an AGC Board member, Board President and now Immediate Past President certifies his dedication to the AGC. Additionally, he has served on the AGC of America’s Construction Leadership Council. This individual also demonstrates his dedication to his community through his close involvement in various civic and business organizations.
AGC Lifetime Achievement Award - George Lubeley, Gillen Construction (Retired)
The AGC of Greater Milwaukee has only given out the lifetime achievement award a few times since this category was first created. The reason was to make sure that it was very selective and held in the highest regard. George's most significant participation has been through his activity and leadership in labor relations matters as the AGC Labor Policy Chairman. His integrity and fairness are examples of the highest level this industry has to offer, and his leadership during critical times has proven what a special individual he is.
AGC Special Community Service Award - Frank Cumberbatch, Bader Foundation
The AGC Special Community Service Award has been given to distinguished individuals who have unselfishly furthered the interests of our community. This year we want to recognize Frank Cumberbatch because of how he has unselfishly given of himself to improve the lives of so many men and women. His numerous years of civic involvement include the Penfield Children Center, the Latino Community Center, Community Brainstorming Sessions, Assistant to the Mayor Barrett and all around community activist. He is an individual who lives to give back and doesn’t let obstacles get into his way.
Chairman of the Year Award - Kevin O’Toole, Hunzinger Construction
Without a thoughtful Chairman, it would be impossible to address the many needs and interests of our association and industry. From construction safety to labor relations...workforce development to public affairs...the Chairman needs to balance the interest of many individuals, while providing the necessary leadership to builds consensus.
Kevin O’Toole was recognized because of his leadership role as the Co-chairman of the Construction Labor Management Council of Southeastern Wisconsin—the CLMC. The CLMC Board is a complex organization that represents multiple construction associations and labor unions. Kevin helped unite and guide the labor and management board representatives in developing two major initiatives related to construction workforce development. His efforts have created a template that has shown how labor and management can develop successful partnerships that benefit the industry as a whole.
Congratulations again to all of our award winners and honorees!
