Invitations are on their way for the AGC of Greater Milwaukee’s Annual Membership Meeting! Join us Thursday, January 21, 2021 for our virtual Annual Meeting to kick-off the start of another outstanding year in construction!

We hope you will join us in welcoming in the 2021 Board Directors and Officers. We're thrilled to announce the event's keynote speaker Ken Simonson, Chief Economic Officer or the AGC of America who will present on The Economic 2021 Outlook – a can't miss presentation!

Along with all the typical features of an AGC Annual Membership Meeting, we will also be drawing the winners of our Post Pandemic Giveaway Fundraiser!  The AGC has partnered with Auction Packages to put together three spectacular vacations that will have you dreaming of your next adventure while supporting the dreams of all of the students supported by the E&R Foundation. All vacations packages are good for two and a half years and will directly benefit the E&R Foundation. Post Pandemic Getaway
AGC Education & Research Foundation Holiday Fundraiser

In lieu of the Holiday Gala, the AGC has come up with an exciting new way for members to show their support for the E&R Foundation with its first ever and hopefully last Post Pandemic Getaway Fundraiser.

The AGC has partnered with Auction Packages and have put together three spectacular vacations that will have you dreaming of your next adventure while supporting the dreams of all the students supported by the E&R Foundation.

All vacations packages are good for two and a half years and will directly benefit the E&R Foundation. This year, instead of buying tickets to the Gala and bidding on the silent auction items, we are hoping that you will buy tickets for a chance to win one of these three fantastic trips.

The Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee Education & Research Foundation was founded as a philanthropic organization in the 1970’s to promote construction industry education and research efforts. Since it was established, the E&R Foundation Board of Directors has awarded over $1 million in grants and scholarships to local schools and universities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Additionally, the E&R Foundation provides research and development funding for initiatives related to the well being and advancement of the construction industry.

State Wide Safety Stand-Down

In response to increased questions from members and the impending need to keep construction essential in Wisconsin, the AGC of Greater Milwaukee partnered with the AGC of Wisconsin and designated a "Safety Stand-Down: COVID-19 Update" on December 3rd & 4th.

Contractors across the state held a Safety Stand-Down on these days to educate and inform their workers on preventing the spread of COVID-19 on the job site and proper adherence of CDC and OSHA guidelines.

 Topics covered in these Safety Stand-Downs included:

  • What is a Coronavirus and how is the Novel Coronavirus, COVID-19 Different from Other Coronaviruses?
  • How does COVID-19 spread?
  • What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
  • How can I help protect myself?
  • And much more!

BizTimes Nonprofit Excellence Awards Honor AGC Member Contractor - CG Schmidt

BizTimes Media presented their seventh annual awards program to salute southeastern Wisconsin’s best corporate citizens and most effective nonprofit organizations. These awards shine a light on excellence in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership.

This year, AGC member, CG Schmidt, was named BizTimes Corporate Citizen of the Year. This award is given to a for-profit organization in recognition of its impact to a single or multiple nonprofit organizations through financial contributions collective efforts to promote, encourage and organize fundraising efforts and company-sponsored programs and/or events engaging employees to participate in volunteerism.

CG Schmidt employees volunteered their time to help with community fundraisers and projects, from blood drives to a winter coat drive to Make a Difference Day, a volunteer event that our CLC joins CG Schmidt every year in helping Milwaukee area residents receive assistance in winterizing their homes.

Help the CLC Safely Respond to Survivorsí Most-Urgent Needs
Sojourner Family Peace Center - Holiday Giving Opportunities

During the holiday season our CLC typically sponsors families and collects gifts for the Sojourner Family Peace Center's Holiday Giving Tree event! Unfortunately, Sojourner is suspending their traditional Holiday Giving Tree program due to safety concerns around COVID-19. With that being said, there are still great ways to give! Purchasing items from their Amazon Wishlist and sending gift cards are a perfect way to provide these family with the items they need most.

The Sojourner Family Peace Center is the largest nonprofit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving over 11,800 clients each year. Established in 1975, Sojourner provides an array of support aimed at helping families affected by domestic violence achieve safety, justice and well-being.

Their primary goals are to ensure the safety of victims of family violence and provide a pathway out of violence for victims and abusers through opportunities to make positive and lasting changes for themselves and their children.

Has the COVID-19 14-Day Quarantine Period Been Shortened?

By now, employers likely have heard the news that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reduced the length of time that individuals should quarantine after an exposure to COVID-19. The old adage “Don’t believe everything you read” turns out to be true in this case. Although the CDC has stated that shortened quarantine periods may be an option in certain circumstances, the agency continues to recommend quarantining the full 14 days, absent local health authorities determining that a shorter period is appropriate.

The CDC’s advice to individuals on how long they should quarantine says:

Anyone who has had close contact with someone with COVID-19 should stay home for 14 days after their last exposure to that person.

  • The best way to protect yourself and others is to stay home for 14 days if you think you’ve been exposed to someone who has COVID-19. Check your local health department’s website for information about options in your area to possibly shorten this quarantine period.
  • However, anyone who has had close contact with someone with COVID-19 and who meets the following criteria does NOT need to stay home.
  • Has COVID-19 illness within the previous 3 months and
  • Has recovered and
  • Remains without COVID-19 symptoms (for example, cough, shortness of breath)
