DOL Launches eLaws Advisor on Health Benefit Laws

The U.S. Department of Laborís Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) has launched† a new interactive Web site intended to help employers comply with the various federal health benefit laws.

The Health Benefits Advisor, www.dol.gov/elaws/ebsa/health,† is designed to help employers and other plan officials understand their responsibilities in operating group health plans.† It provides information on the:

  • Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Newbornsí and Mothersí Health Protection Act
  • Mental Health Parity Act
  • Womenís Health and Cancer Rights Act.

Like all of DOLís eLaws Advisors, the site simulates the interaction that the user might have with an employment law expert.† It asks questions and provides answers based on the userís responses.† Other free publications on health benefits are also available on EBSAís Web site or by calling its toll-free number at 1-866-444-3272.† DOL also provides online benefits guidance on its Benefits Compliance Assistance page.† For DOLís eLaws Advisors on other employment topics, click here.
