Recruitment & Retention Tactics Discussed at AGC’s 6th HR Professionals Forum

Human resource (HR) managers and administrators working for AGC contractors from across the county recently gathered in St. Louis, Missouri, for AGC’s annual HR Professionals Forum.  The theme for this year’s program was Recruitment & Retention, a top concern for AGC members of all types, as reflected by the forum's record attendance.

The program kicked off on June 6 with two pre-conference sessions:  a tour of the AGC of St. Louis-sponsored Construction Careers Center charter high school and a Construction HR 101 session for those new to HR or to the construction industry.  On June 7-8, participants engaged in lively roundtable sessions on recruiting practices, retention strategies, expense-coverage practices, succession planning, pre-employment testing, and employee recognition.  They also received presentations on measuring and improving employee loyalty by Chris Woolard of Walker Information, on building effective compensation packages by Jeff Robinson of PAS, and on recent developments in employment law by Kathi Chesnut of Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale.

The next HR Professionals Forum is expected to be held in June 2008.  Meanwhile, AGC members can “virtually” network on HR issues via the HR Practices e-Forum.  For information, click here.  Many HR resources are also available to members on the Labor & HR Topical Resources page of the AGC web site at www.agc.org/hr/topicalresources.
