AGC-ASPE's Estimating Academy Comes to Norfolk, VA

Some industry professionals would claim that the success of a contractor is in its estimating. Accurate estimating allows the contractor to bid and compete in a highly competitive field, to complete a project according to schedule and contract, and to stay in business.

The 2007 Estimating Academy presented by AGC of America and the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) will be held on October 18-19, 2007 in Norfolk, VA. Hosted by AGC of Virginia, this two day program will help estimators sharpen their skills and provide instruction on current topics, including: LEED® - Estimating for Green Buildings, Estimating with Electronic Documents, Managing Preconstruction, and Conceptual Estimating.

Led by industry professionals Ron Covarrublas, CPE, Kevin R. Miller, PhD and Reed Thomas, CPE, attendees will discover and discuss the most compelling components of construction estimating. After attending this program students will be able to:

  • Review use of electronic documents from either CD's or the Internet;
  • Compare electronic documents, digitizers, and manual scaling methods;
  • Discuss LEED® standards relative to estimating green building;
  • Compare the bidding and estimating procedures of green vs. traditional construction;
  • Identify the LEED® Rating System and its impact on design, project planning and construction strategies;
  • Review and discuss multiple approaches and delivery systems for developing conceptual estimates;
  • Analyze the components of a conceptual estimate including site, foundation, structure, building envelope, interior walls, core & tenant finishes, specialty items, equipment and conveying systems;
  • Examine the skills, process and tools necessary for the estimator to take the lead during preconstruction;
  • Discuss concept planning, schematic design, design development and establishment of the GMP; and
  • Identify team relationships, conflict resolution, budget management, and other keys to success

The Estimating Academy is limited to the first 50 registrants. Don’t wait to register! Seats fill up quickly.
