Working Group Spotlight

Water Heater Compliance Committee (WHCC): On October 30, the WHCC met to discuss changes to the Residential Water Heater Operations Manual to allow for the use of an AEDM to establish ratings per regulations 10 CFR 429.17 and 10 CFR 429.70(g). Committee members also discussed California Energy Commission (CEC) requirements for reporting CWH electric storage models that vary only by input rate and provided preliminary reporting strategies to meet CEC’s requirements. AHRI staff reviewed the status of the water heater certification testing program and answered questions pertaining to COVID-related delays. Staff reinforced the labs’ commitment to complete first sample annual tests by the end of 2020. Contact: Cobi Waxman.

AHRI 1430 Standard Working Group: On November 2, working group members determined the physical and operational requirement categories across drafted regulations at the state, regional, and federal levels for demand response water heaters with the goal of harmonizing those requirements. On November 19, working group members reviewed the demand response requirements for Energy Star, Washington State, and Oregon to continue the harmonization effort. Contact: Cobi Waxman.

AHRI MENA Staff Meet at Dubai Office

AHRI’s MENA team - Vice President Francois Boueri, Managing Director Khalil Issa, Technical Director Nabil Shahin, and Technical Analyst Dalip Singh – recently met at the regional office in Dubai, UAE, for the first time since the office opened this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Following an online launch event hosted last month with nearly 80 participants representing more than 40 manufacturers from 15 countries, the team held several meetings aimed at providing improved services to international members and regional certification program participants. Topics discussed included current initiatives, regulatory challenges, and strategy mapping. The team also contacted several members and certification participants to encourage engagement in regional industry groups in 2021 and attended a certification witness test.
