AHRI’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team recently exhibited at the HVAC-R Egypt Expo held in Cairo, where they also participated as a Strategic Knowledge Partner and led a workshop on the use of AHRI standards and certification programs.

The MENA team took the opportunity to engage with several stakeholders, including collaborators, the ASHRAE Cairo Chapter, current and prospective AHRI members and certification program participants, and industry consultants.

“With new directives by the Egyptian authorities for increased industrialization and large investments in real estate development across the country, we foresee greater cooperation with the HVACR main players in Egypt as they realize the importance of gaining internationally accredited and recognized AHRI product performance certification to support their growth,” said AHRI MENA Executive Director Khalil Issa. Colorado Governor Signs Bill Containing Low-GWP Refrigerant Building Code Language

Last week, Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) signed into law H.B. 1362, which includes language enabling low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants. The bill, which passed the legislature on May 20, is broadly focused on establishing advanced energy codes and other provisions such as public building electrification and a high-efficiency electric heating and appliances grant program.

The American Innovation and Manufacturing Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency to promulgate regulations that phase down the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons and restrict their use in certain applications. AHRI has been working with states across the country to address, through legislative and regulatory efforts, building codes that do not allow the use of low-GWP alternative refrigerants.
