TED GOETZ - AICP PIONEER - DIES AT 84

It is with fond memories and sadness that we report the passing of Ted Goetz, one of the AICP’s earliest leaders.  In addition to playing an instrumental role in the establishment of the AICP on the West Coast, Mr. Goetz, is perhaps best known for his long tenure as executive producer at FilmFair.

It is with fond memories and sadness that we report the passing of Ted Goetz, one of the AICP’s earliest leaders.  In addition to playing an instrumental role in the establishment of the AICP on the West Coast, Mr. Goetz is perhaps best known for his long tenure as executive producer at FilmFair, directing and producing various iconic spots, including the Tony The Tiger ads for Frosted Flakes, the original “got milk?” campaign, Schlitz (featuring the malt liquor bull) and The Man From Glad spots.

Mr. Goetz devoted countless hours to the AICP, including serving as the president of the West Coast chapter, and in his retirement took on the role of West Executive Director, paving the way for AICP to establish a professional staff from a largely volunteer structure. His main strength in his role with the AICP was charting a course to establish a National Organization, espousing the value of moving from a loose affiliation of chapters. He was also a mentor to several in the business, inspiring many to become involved in industry issues, especially with those in the AICP.

Mr. Goetz described receiving the Jay B. Eisenstat Award in 1992 for his devotion to the association as one of his shining moments. In an interview in 2002 with SHOOT, Goetz said, “It’s the highlight of anybody’s career when your peers recognize you. But even more than that, when I went on stage to accept the award, I felt a great sense of pride for the organization, of how so many people worked to create a consolidated, articulate voice for the industry.”

After his retirement, he lived as a farmer growing many avocado trees on his ranch in San Diego. In a show of his generosity, Mr. Goetz donated the farm several years ago.

Memorial information can be accessed by clicking here.

Donations in Mr. Goetz’s memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

3. "When I die, bury me on the golf course so my husband will visit." – Unknown
