Energy Program Update
Electricity and Natural Gas
As you know from the gas prices at the pump, the energy market has not been desirable for consumers recently. The high gas prices are mimicked by high electricity prices in the competitive markets APPI serves. The best electricity opportunities for your members occur in competitive deregulated markets. Currently the only states showing electricity savings opportunities are Maryland, New York, and Texas. Some members in Massachusetts and Michigan may have limited electricity savings opportunities. Recently, APPI has provided Maryland businesses several opportunities to "lock in" a fixed price for an extended period. APPI has presented two strike price offers to about 2,000 qualifying Maryland members, creating the opportunity for these businesses to lock in savings for several years. Businesses like the advantage of the fixed price offer that provides budget assurance for more accurate planning for the years ahead. Texas remains the best savings market for electricity deregulation. APPI is pleased to report that its seventh electricity aggregation program was completed in Texas in the first quarter of 2005. The program was a tremendous success. Ninety-two percent of existing participating members renewed their electricity contracts through the APPI Savings Solutions Program. Savings to the members will exceed $1 million over three years. APPI is preparing another TX pool for this summer. Natural gas management programs continue to yield opportunities. The program provides large businesses (spending upwards of $50,000 per year on natural gas) with expert advice and consultation. The states that may offer opportunities for large businesses include CA, GA, IL, MI, PA, NJ, NY (except Long Island), OH, and TX. For more details on energy market opportunities, contact Matt Shortall at 800-520-6685 or mshortall@appienergy.com.

Utility Audit Update
Are your utilities efficient?
Has your association’s headquarters sent APPI its utility bills? We have identified substantial savings for many association offices located across the U.S.
The service is available to all members located in the United States. The audit includes energy (electricity and natural gas), water, waste removal/recycling, freight, credit card processing, and telecommunications (voice and data services). There are savings found in one or more of these areas for most association members. Try the utility audit service and determine how much money you could be saving. Contact Kathy Kiernan at 800-520-6685 or kkiernan@appienergy.com.
Member Savings Profile FPPA Member Receives $19,000 Check Maryland: A recent audit conducted by the APPI Savings Solutions Program yielded a refund check for over $19,000 from the State Comptrollers Office for a Flexographic Pre-Press Platemakers Association (FPPA) member. "In addition to that (check), we will now realize a savings in the amount of approximately $7,200/year on our utility bills," says the FPPA member. “Through the APPI audit, this savings was realized once we were able to separate our usage as to what was manufacturing and non-manufacturing…. Manufacturing usage is non-taxable." In addition, the member company is pursuing an audit of its other five facilities.

What's Coming Next From APPI
Online Energy Profile Registry
APPI is conducting a pilot study to assess the value of an online registry of members’ energy profiles. If the pilot study is successful, your members will be invited to visit a secure website to share basic information about their electricity usage with APPI. This registry will enable APPI to alert your members when electricity opportunities are available to them. The registry will be confidential and free to members. Registration takes less than five minutes to complete. Your members will benefit from APPI’s real-time access to their energy information, allowing instant notification of electricity opportunities as they arise. To participate in the pilot program, please contact Mandi Krack at 800-520-6685 or mkrack@appienergy.com.
