U.S. Chamber Promotes Transportation Investment
As Congress works to develop the next transportation authorization bill, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce brought its business leaders to Washington, DC, for a two-day advocacy event.
The purpose of the chamber’s Transportation Is Your Business Fly-in was to bring transportation leaders from around the nation—including APTA Chair Beverly A. Scott, Ph.D.—to Washington to inform members of Congress of the critical importance of the legislation and to call for increased investment in transportation infrastructure. The event began with a July 14 welcoming reception on Capitol Hill, followed by a full schedule on July 15. Steve Odland, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Office Depot, addressed the lunch session as part of the National Chamber Foundation’s CEP Leadership Series.
The chamber called the current situation facing Congress a “critical opportunity to improve existing programs and increase investment in the nation’s roads, bridges, and transit systems,” adding: “A well-maintained, modernized, and expanded surface transportation system is essential to spur economic growth, create jobs, and maintain America’s competitiveness in the global economy.”
APTA is a member of the chamber’s Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition.
