FTA Announces Available Funding

On Feb. 7, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced the availability of $650 million in discretionary funding for State of Good Repair (SGR) and $125 million for the Bus Livability Initiative under the Bus and Bus Facilities capital program, subject to availability. The program makes grants to assist state and local governments in financing “capital projects to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities.”

Criteria for the program include linkage to livability principles and mobility, environmental sustainability, cross-disciplinary support by non-transit agencies, need, and project readiness.

FTA also announced $51.5 million in funding for the Clean Fuels Program, to “promote the usage and development of energy efficient technologies that reduce energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.” Projects funded by this initiative must demonstrate use of clean fuels/advanced technology and be located in ozone or carbon monoxide maintenance or non-attainment areas, although applications from other areas may be funded through the Bus and Bus Facilities program.

Application deadlines are March 22 for SGR proposals; March 29 for Bus Livability; and April 5 for Clean Fuels. Proposals must be submitted electronically through the apply function at grants.gov.
