SEPTA Marks Reopening of Bridgeport Viaduct

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) in Philadelphia marked the reopening of the 102-year-old
Bridgeport Viaduct at a ceremony Nov. 18 at the agency’s Norristown Transportation Center (NTC).

SEPTA closed the viaduct for four months while completing a $7.6 million bridge timber and tie replacement project on the 3,175-foot bridge that carries the Norristown High Speed Line (NHSL) over the Schuylkill River between Bridgeport and the Norristown facility. The renovation effort included replacement of all track ties, bridge timbers, track level walkway, and railing
system; waterproofing; and some structural repairs, including structural steel repairs to the NHSL station at NTC.

During the project, SEPTA operated shuttle buses in place of trains between NTC and Bridgeport Station. The agency thanked customers for their patience and support with a rider appreciation event during the morning commute.

SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line travels over the newly reopened Bridgeport Viaduct on its way to the Norristown Transportation Center.
