Leaders Gather in Phoenix for Annual Rail Conference

More than 1,400 passenger rail professionals gathered in Phoenix June 19-22 to network, share best practices, discuss trends and innovations, learn about industry products and services and explore pressing industry issues as APTA conducted its International Rail Rodeo and Annual Rail Conference.

APTA Chair Valarie J. McCall and Acting President & CEO Richard White presided at the Sunday evening banquet to celebrate International Rodeo award winners and honorees of APTA’s Safety and Security Awards.

In addition, the conference featured dozens of concurrent sessions, technical forums, committee meetings, presentations and special workshops. Four General Sessions featured high-level presentations from leaders, stakeholders and experts who discussed some of passenger rail’s challenges and trends: ridership and economic growth, state of good repair and legacy systems, a DOT update and societal trends that are affecting public transportation’s future.

Brief reports of these General Sessions and special programs follow in the "News from the APTA Rail Conference" section of this issue. Find videos of some sessions at the APTA website.
