Transit Curriculum Now Available from APTA
The National Transit Curriculum (NTC) is now available for download from APTA, which worked with numerous partners on its development.
The NTC is a semester-long course developed by an advisory committee comprised of representatives from public transit agencies, private sector firms, educators and trade associations to increase understanding and awareness of the industry. | It consists of six modules: Introduction to Public Transportation; Governance, Finance and Policy; Planning and Design; Transit Service Planning; Transit Service Management; and Public Transit Technology and Trends. Individual lessons can be adapted for students of all ages, from K-12 to graduate-level courses, or for use in industry presentations.
The NTC advisory committee was led by Jill Hough, director of the Small Urban & Rural Transit Center (SURTC) of the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute at North Dakota State University, with Paul Larrousse, director of the National Transit Institute (NTI) at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, as its vice chair. Rutgers and SURTC funded the effort to develop the curriculum. Hough and Larrousse also serve as chair and vice chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee of APTA’s Human Relations Committee, which supported the project.
