Capital Metro Expands Service

The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Capital Metro), Austin, TX, is joining the city of Round Rock to introduce bus service on three new routes.

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan noted that the bus service is a one-year pilot program “to gauge ridership and work with the community to meet transit needs. We want to offer a network that will provide simplified routes, increased frequency, connections to more places and service to more jobs.”

Capital Metro President/Chief Executive Officer Linda Watson said, “Our goal is to provide real transportation alternatives for Central Texas. We’re proud of our partnerships with the cities and agencies in the region and are thrilled to be able to provide public transit for the people of Round Rock.”

The expansion was developed from Round Rock’s Transit Master Plan, adopted in 2015, to provide a blueprint for improving local mobility and regional connectivity over the next 10 years. The city’s population grew by more than 44 percent in the last decade and the number of residents and jobs continues to grow.
