JTA, Greyhound Open Intercity Bus Terminal

The Jacksonville (FL) Transportation Authority (JTA) opened the Intercity Bus Terminal at the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center (JRTC) on April 12, marking the completion of the first phase of the intermodal project.

JTA designed and built the one-story, 10,000-square-foot facility, which will be leased to Greyhound Lines Inc. Amenities include ticketing offices, a cafeteria, an indoor waiting area, nine bus bays, parking and a customer dropoff area.

JTA Chief Executive Officer and APTA Chair Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. called the intercity terminal “the first pillar of the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center,” adding, “The JRTC is fast becoming a gateway to the region and a catalyst for economic activity.”

The bus terminal has been built to meet Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification requirements, incorporating an energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and LED lighting.

The transportation hub ultimately will connect local, regional and intercity modes of transportation including JTA’s First Coast Flyer BRT, fixed bus routes and Skyway/U²C; Greyhound and other intercity carriers; rideshare, bikeshare and possibly Amtrak and commuter rail stations in the future. Phase II, scheduled for completion in January 2020, includes an approximately 40,000-square-foot administration building.
