NORTA Extends Bus Route to Medical Campus
The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) kicked off its expanded bus service to the Ochsner Health System’s main campus in neighboring Jefferson Parish, LA, recently with an inaugural ride carrying area dignitaries.
NORTA is extending its existing Tulane bus line and had added 13 new stops—assisted by a partnership between the city and the parish—as part of an effort to improve access to employment and medical care at the facility. The route already operated 24 hours a day and the system has begun providing round-the-clock service on another line that also serves the hospital.
The extension to Ochsner complements NORTA’s Regional Ride program, which began service in September. The program grants bus riders all-day access to both RTA and Jefferson Transit bus lines for $6 without needing to buy separate passes.
