KCATA Breaks Ground for Prospect MAX BRT

FTA Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams participated in a ground-breaking ceremony Oct. 25 in Kansas City, MO, launching construction of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority’s (KCATA) third and newest BRT line, Prospect MAX.

A $29.9 million federal Capital Investment Grant supported construction of the new line, which is scheduled to be completed in 2019. Williams joined KCATA Chief Executive Officer Robbie Makinen and Kansas City elected officials for the event at the future site of the East Village Transit Center.

Prospect MAX buses will provide faster service through a 10-mile corridor with traffic signal prioritization and off-board ticketing. The line will include such amenities as real-time arrival information, Wi-Fi service and passenger-friendly transit centers that connect to bus routes serving Missouri and Kansas communities.
