Commuter Rail Industry Making Significant PTC Progress

Commuter rail leaders outlined in a press call Nov. 14 the significant progress being made to install Positive Train Control (PTC) in the third quarter ending Sept. 30, demonstrating the industry’s commitment to safety and to reaching statutory milestones. The deadline for installation of PTC is Dec. 31, 2018, and for full implementation is December 2020. [More]

Over the past year, an interesting public transportation concept has been making the rounds on social media. Its design is a cross between a futuristic-looking flying car and one of those amusement park rides that spins like a turntable while gliding across a track. The elevated, gyroscopic system can bypass traffic by taking advantage of unused medians. As sci-fi as it sounds, surprisingly, feedback from the Twittersphere hasn’t been about the possibility; instead, it’s been about usability. [More]
