FRA Report: Full Implementaton of PTC Unrealistic by End of 2015
|
The Federal Railroad Administration recently reported to Congress that full deployment of Positive Train Control (PTC) is unlikely by the end of 2015 due to significant technical and programmatic issues relating to the U.S. rail system. The Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 required implementation by Dec. 31, 2015 and it is expected that partial deployment of PTC can likely be achieved. |

DOT Hosts Webinar on Information Visualization
DOT will be hosting a webinar for IT staff and data managers on Sept. 5 from 1-2:30 p.m. that will provide a live demonstration and presentation on emerging and ever-improving visualization and information management technologies. This information visualization can be applied to historical data to justify budget, impact planning decisions, and improve quality and effectiveness of incident response and emergency

APTA Releases August Transit Savings Report
As gas prices rise during the summer travel months, so do savings for those who use public transportation. Public transportation saves individuals more than $9,854 a year on average, according to the APTA August Transit Savings Report.

Americans continue to search for ways to make their communities more accessible without relying on cars. We see this movement leaving big cities and reaching into smaller communities as well as rural areas. One example of this is the new multi-use path through Grand Teton National Park.
Google announced that it now has data on 1 million public transportation system schedules available through Google Maps. This also includes allowing users to choose their type of transportation, get specific station layout information, and save past trips.
SEPTA employees are being called heroes after they saved a toddler who fell between the gap of a train and the station. The quick action of assistant conductor Bobby Jackson ensured the safe return of the child to her father.
