Save More for the Holidays by Taking Public Transit

As Americans head into the Thanksgiving weekend, and spend time with their families, they may find more money to spend on all the trimmings if they ride public transit. According to APTA's November Transit Savings Report, individuals who ride public transportation instead of driving can save, on average, $816 this month, and $9,798 annually. APTA releases this monthly report to examine how an individual in a two-person household can save money by taking public transportation and living with one less car.

APTA Wishes Its Members a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is turning its buses into rolling art museums. It's currently accepting submissions from local artists to have their art displayed on routes as a part of a new program called MTD ART: Moving Pictures Through Your Neighborhood.

From Milwaukee, WI to San Diego, CA and many cities in between, public transportation systems are helping their communities this holiday season. The goal? To ensure no family goes without, from food items to toys and coats, the buses are being stuffed to help the less fortunate for the holidays.

The MBTA is moving even farther along the path toward paperless public transit. Its new application called mTicket allows a rider to purchase a ticket in advance and use their smartphone to provide the conductor a barcode to scan.
