Riding Public Transit Is a Slam Dunk

Whether your brackets are in tatters or you have bragging rights in your office March Madness competition, you can save money while spending your commuting time researching next year’s tournament if you take public transportation. According to APTA's March Transit Savings Report, individuals who ride public transportation instead of driving can save, on average, more than $829 this month, and $9,947 annually. APTA's monthly Transit Savings Report tracks how an individual in a two-person household can save money by taking public transportation and living with one fewer car.

Have you signed up for APTA’s International Rail Rodeo and Rail Conference May 30-June 2 in Philadelphia? The Rail Rodeo will feature a new combined competition on Saturday, June 1, of  maintenance and operations team members working together for the first time in the history of the Rail Rodeo.

The London Underground just celebrated its 150th birthday and a couple of fans have mapped out the portions of the system that most people never see or think about. You can now have a look at all those depots where the trains spend their nights, ready to serve the people of London early the next day.
 
Public transportation systems around the country have been "props" in movies and shows, from Kevin Spacey filming House of Cards in DC to the Downtown Los Angeles railway hub in The Dark Knight Rises and Gangster Squad. LA Metro is allowing more filming on its buses and trains.
