President Obama outlined on Feb. 26 the four-year, $302 billion surface transportation reauthorization proposal that will be detailed in the budget request he will make next
week. He also announced $600 million for a sixth round of Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grants. Applications are due April 28.
Obama was speaking in St. Paul, MN, where he cited the projects of Metro Transit and the Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority as among the success stories of previous federal investment. Look for more details in the next issue of Passenger Transport.
In another development related to MAP-21 authorization, on Feb. 26 Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, released a "discussion draft" for comprehensive tax reform. It called for dedicating $126.5 billion to the Highway Trust Fund to fund infrastructure for eight years. |
