Nearly 300 Members of Congress Sign Letter Urging Highway Trust Fund Solution
Nearly 300 members of the House from both parties signed a letter calling for a long-term surface transportation bill that transcends short-term fixes to the Highway Trust Fund. "We are united in our conviction that now is the time to end the cycle of short-term extensions that kick the can down the road by doing the work needed to pass a multi-year
surface transportation reauthorization bill," reads the letter, which was released Feb. 24. Reps. Reid Ribble (R-WI), Tom Reed (R-NY), Dan Lipinski (D-IL) and Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) co-authored the letter.
FHA Publishes Notice of Proposed Rulemaking
The Federal Highway Administration published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on performance management regulations in the assessment of the condition of roads and bridges. The public is encouraged to make comments until April 6.
February Brings Big Transit Savings
Individuals who ride public transportation instead of driving can save, on average, more than $770 per month and $9,238 annually, according to APTA's February Transit Savings Report. These savings are based on the cost of commuting by public transit compared to the cost of driving a vehicle, which includes the Feb. 23 average national gas price.
