The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) hosted APTA’s annual Risk Management
Seminar June 12-15 in Albany, NY. The
seminar, which attracted nearly 80 attendees, began in New York City with a
tour of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s new PATH World Trade Center rail
terminal and connection with the New York Subway as well as the new One World
Trade Center Building. Deadline for Nominations: July 25

of candidates for next year’s positions on APTA's Executive Committee of the Board

5:00 p.m. (eastern) on July 25. Eno Center Honors Former APTA Chair; Signs MOU
At its annual Future Leaders Development
Conference Dinner, the Eno Center for Transportation honored Phillip
Washington, APTA’s Immediate Past Chair and CEO of the Los Angeles County
Metropolitan Transportation Authority, with the Wilbur S. Smith Award for
Service to Eno. Mort Downey, U.S. DOT's longest-serving
deputy secretary, received Eno’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Separately, APTA and Eno signed a memorandum of understanding on policy research and training issues of mutual benefit. 11th Annual Dump the Pump Day
More than 150 public transportation systems and organizations celebrated APTA’s 11th National Dump the Pump Day on June 16. The annual event raises public awareness about the benefits of public transportation and encourages people to use transit instead of driving their cars. Participating systems sponsored various activities including free or discounted rides, photo contests, and entertainment. APTA and the transportation community mourned the passing
of former U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH). APTA Chair Valarie J. McCall took part in the memorial event in Voinovich's hometown of Cleveland. SAVE THE DATE

Infrastructure that works for the twenty-first century could usher in a new transportation era for the nation and a renewed sense of national purpose, contributing to a bright future of shared prosperity. At least, that's the hope. Consider all there is to be gained if we lift our sights beyond fixing potholes, decrepit bridges, and broken rail joints — all of which should be done — to reimagining how we move and the platforms we move on. |
