As Hurricane Michael struck the coast of the Florida panhandle and inland into Georgia, APTA was in contact with public transit systems in these regions, many of which were assisting in evacuation and other efforts.
StarMetro in Tallahassee, FL, suspended service Oct. 10 in anticipation of the hurricane making landfall. It resumed operations today on a reduced “Saturday schedule,” with buses running once an hour, operating free for all fixed routes and dial-a-ride service.
Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority, Macon, GA, stopped service the evening of Oct. 10 and Chatham Area Transit in Savannah, GA, suspended its operations the following day. Both returned to operation today. Resources for agencies affected by Hurricane Michael are below:

The Transit Cooperative Research Program recently released the Handbook for Examining the Effects of NEMT Brokerages on Transportation Coordination. This webinar will provide information on what influences state Medicaid agencies to establish separate NEMT brokerages or to include NEMT as part of Medicaid managed care. Aligning Public Transit & Vision Zero for Better Communities Please join APTA and the Vision Zero Network (a collaborative campaign with the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries) for a webinar, Oct. 23, discussing new APTA analysis of the safety benefits of public transit. Presenters will highlight approaches and examples from Boston and San Francisco and will discuss how Vision Zero proponents can work with public transit and its supporters toward safer communities. Calgary Set to Launch MAX BRT—New colors and a new name, the MAX bus lines, will roll out Nov. 19, covering the southeast, north and south. LA Metro May Rename Rail Lines—With an unprecedented number of projects planned—and a dwindling number of hues to choose from—officials are considering an overhaul of the map that would replace the system’s color names with letters or numbers. Yoko Ono Brings the Sky Underground in Newly Unveiled New York Subway Mural—Six new ceramic mosaics, cumulatively labeled “SKY” by the artist, comprise 973 square feet altogether with visions of a blue, cloud-filled sky embedded with written messages of hope.
