Responding to Hurricane Michael

As Hurricane Michael struck the coast of the Florida panhandle and inland into Georgia, APTA was in contact with public transit systems in these regions, many of which were assisting in evacuation and other efforts.

StarMetro in Tallahassee, FL, suspended service Oct. 10 in anticipation of the hurricane making landfall. It resumed operations today on a reduced “Saturday schedule,” with buses running once an hour, operating free for all fixed routes and dial-a-ride service.

Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority, Macon, GA, stopped service the evening of Oct. 10 and Chatham Area Transit in Savannah, GA, suspended its operations the following day. Both returned to operation today.

Resources for agencies affected by Hurricane Michael are below:
Polly Hanson, APTA's director of security, risk and emergency management, is available at phanson@apta.com to answer questions and work with affected systems.

APTA's thoughts are with all members of the public transportation community, their families and neighbors at this challenging time.
