Alan Stitt gets top UK award

Alan Stitt, PhD, McCauley Chair of Experimental Ophthalmology and the Scientific Director of the Centre for Vision and Vascular Science (CVVS) at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland, has been awarded the prestigious Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.

The award will support Stitt’s research in  vascular stem cells and treatment of important eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy. He is pioneering the application of cell therapy using a very rare population of cells that promote repair of damaged blood vessels within the retina.
