"Grave implications": rd8 mutation in vendor B6 mice and ES cells
Authors of a recently-accepted paper in IOVS found the rd8 mutation in homozygous form in C57BL/6N substrains and in embryonic stem cells of C57BL/6N origin. The paper suggests researchers screen for rd8 if their mouse lines were generated on the C57BL/6N background, as the rd8 mutation "can produce significant disease phenotypes unrelated to the gene or genes of interest."
