Steven Bassnett, PhD, of Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., has been named the 2016 Cataract Research Award recipient by the National Foundation for Eye Research for his outstanding work in lens research. The award — a plaque and $2,500 honorarium — will be presented at the Lens Business Meeting during that ARVO 2016 Annual Meeting in Seattle.
Bassnett is professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology. His lab's research studies are aimed at understanding the cellular basis of transparency and accommodation. His team is combining cell biological approaches with classical techniques of physiological optics to provide a more complete understanding of the cellular mechanisms that operate during accommodation.
