From the Director: AWC President Foutch and Vice President Munson Appoint Legislative Committee
AWC President Mark Foutch, Olympia Mayor, and AWC Vice President Rich Munson, Spokane Valley Councilmember, recently appointed AWC’s 2006-07 Legislative Committee.
The charge of the Legislative Committee is to review the resolutions adopted by the membership during the Conference and advance to the AWC Board specific legislative priorities for the upcoming legislative sessions. The members of the Committee will serve for two years, advancing recommendations for the 2007 and 2008 Legislative sessions. The Committee will be broken into five subcommittees in order to allow for a thorough review of each resolution and the specific legislative proposals intended to meet the objectives of the resolution. The first meeting of the full Committee and the subcommittees will be August 15. The subcommittees will meet throughout the summer and fall. The final full Committee meeting will be held November 17, when they will determine their recommended priority proposals for Board review, possible modification and adoption on December 1. How Can You Provide Input? Please review the adopted resolutions on the AWC website, at www.awcnet.org/legpolicy. A hard copy will also be mailed to each city in late July. If you have suggestions for specific legislative proposals associated with the resolutions, please contact Jim Justin of the AWC staff or any of the other legislative personnel. A complete list of the AWC legislative staff can be found here. You may also advance your ideas to me during one of the upcoming Small City Round-Ups or Regional Meetings. Click here to see the Round-Up schedule. Click here to see the Regional Meetings schedule. Some of the Round-Ups have already taken place, but if you missed the meeting and have an issue of concern or importance, please do not hesitate to contact me, Jim Justin or any of the other staff. Please also note some of the Regional Meetings are scheduled for late October. While this is not too late to advance an idea, the subcommittees would like to hear and review proposals as early as possible. If you have a proposal, please let us know right away. Crafting a legislative package that is reflective of your needs takes more than an active Legislative Committee. We need input from the entire membership. Please contact us with any ideas or suggestions. Thanks for your continued help and support.
