Studies Examine Value of Green Building

Two studies have examined the return on investment for developing “Living (green) Buildings.”

One study of the Cascadia Regional Green Building Council concluded that Living Building projects usually pay back their added cost within a reasonably period, according to the Green Building Update.

The Cascadia Region Green Building Council “views the Living Building Challenge as an additional outlet to promote the goals set by the U.S. Green Building Council and the Canada Green Building Council. The Living Building Challenge is “attempting to raise the bar and define the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment, using a benchmark of what is currently possible and given the best knowledge available today.  Click here for the survey results.

Another study by the Washington Policy Center based in Seattle concludes that the energy savings from “green” schools have been consistently overestimated.  For more details about “What Washington’s ‘Green’ Schools Tell Us about HB 2334’s $3 Billing Spending Plan,” click here.  [Return to top]
