Construction Employment Changed Little in July

Total employment declined by 131,000 in July, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.5%, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported on August 6. With construction employment changed so little in July (-11,000), could this mean the worst is over?

Ten thousand (10,000) construction workers were off payrolls due to strike activity, BLS noted. Private-sector payroll employment edged up by 71,000.  [Return to top]
