ConsensusDOCS Celebrates Growth on Three-Year Anniversary

September 28, 2010 marked the three-year anniversary of ConsensusDOCS – the only consensus standard contracts written by a broad coalition of the construction industry. The standard contracts program is just three years old.

In 2007, ConsensusDOCS published the first standard integrated project delivery (IPD) contract, a new project delivery method which incorporates lean principles. In 2008, ConsensusDOCS wrote the first contract to address the legal risks with building information modeling (BIM), which is revolutionizing the industry. In 2009, ConsensusDOCS published the first contract to comprehensively address green building construction.

The adoption rate has continued to grow during a period of a severely depressed construction economy in which dramatically fewer construction contracts are being signed, according to a ConsensusDOCS release. The diverse coalition now boasts of 29 leading construction industry associations – a 45% increase since its inception. More than 4,300 unique subscribers across the nation (with some locations granting access up to 50 users) currently access ConsensusDOCS. More than 265 educational seminars and articles have been given or written about ConsensusDOCS, and there are more than 39,000 results on the Worldwide Web.

ConsensusDOCS is currently finalizing a comprehensive revision of its most used contract documents to proactively address emerging trends and best practices. Publication is scheduled for January 2011.
