A letter from CaGBC’s Director of Education: Highlighting continued growth and expansion in green course offerings

As we enter another exciting new year, CaGBC education continues to celebrate growth, with a successful expanded delivery in 2017 that included a variety of innovative and specialized courses instructed by leading Canadian industry experts, as well as a focus on offering more options to Emerging Green Professionals (EGPs).

Some of our key accomplishments in the past year included:

  • An approximate 200 per cent increase in the number of participants attending CaGBC’s new courses focused on Zero Carbon, Energy Benchmarking and the WELL Building Standard.
  • A highly successful rollout of the new LEED Strategic Practices (LSP) Program. The LSP Program is a new online certificate program designed to provide real-world LEED experience. The pilot of the program began in March and the launch of the program occurred in September. In both instances the available seats sold out quickly.

For 2018, we have several exciting initiatives planned, including:

  • Cutting-edge courses on TRUE Zero Waste, Parksmart, Zero Carbon and Energy Benchmarking.
  • More job shadowing opportunities for LSP graduates.
  • Further expansion in the variety and availability of GPRO course offerings in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.
  • Increased opportunities for Emerging Green Professionals (EGPs) to grow their careers with new offerings through higher education institutions.

Education is a key component of transforming the green building industry and the built environment, and we are excited to keep growing and evolving our green building education offerings to support a more sustainable future.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated members and customers for your continued engagement and commitment towards advancing green building in Canada. We look forward to working with you in 2018.

Alana Anderson
