NewsManager's Comments Feature

NewsManager's interactive Comments function is similar to our rate-this-article feature, but offers readers the ability to provide detailed feedback (much like a blog).

How it works

If you choose to have this feature enabled in your NewsManager account, you will see a checkbox on each article manager page. This box allows you to turn the reader-comments feature on/off for each article.

At the end of each comments-enabled article, readers will see 'Post a comment' and 'View comments.'

Your CommPartners designer will be able to style the links (post and view comments) and to specify their placement within your template.

Our designers can also control the fonts and background of the comments entering and viewing windows.

When readers click the View Comments button, a mini-window appears with logged feedback:

There are three options for setting up the Comments functionality for your NewsManager e-newsletters:

  • Public Comments – once your issue is published these comments are viewable to readers immediately, no further action is needed. You do have the ability, however, to remove negative or offensive comments in NewsManager.

  • Non-public Comments - all comments are visible only to the newsletter editor. Once your issue is published, you may view all comments by logging back into NewsManager and selecting View Reader Comments from the Tools menu.

  • Moderated Comments - all comments need to be approved by the newsletter editor before becoming public. This option takes some vigilance on the part of the editor (to regularly log into NewsManager to approve the latest reader comments). Keep in mind, readers will not be able to post a comment and then view their posted comments immediately after.

We'll demonstrate the Moderated Comments feature below; follow these steps to enable comments for each article:

  1. You'll notice within the content management editor for each article, there will be a Comments field, with a checkbox to enable this feature for that article. (See yellow highlighted section below.)

  2. To view reader comments—once the e-newsletter is published—log back into NewsManager. Go to the Tools dropdown (on the blue menu bar) a Comments feature menu option (View Reader Comments) will be enabled. Select this option.

  3. Choose the publication and the issue date within the Reader Comments window. Using the checkboxes, select the comments you wish to approve and make available for public viewing.

  4. Click the Update Approvals button.

  5. Periodically log back into NewsManager to repeat this process as more readers open your newsletter and submit comments.
