1. Is Coding Skill Is the New Bachelor's Degree?

Zach Sims, chief executive of Codecademy, an online firm that teaches people how to write computer code, says that programming skills can be a ticket to upward mobility—the way college degrees have been for generations. The upshot? You may not have the money to pay for a four-year degree, but if you are an excellent coder, the lack of letters after your name won’t keep you from landing a good job.  Read more.

2. First Order of Business at Amazon: Survive the Hiring Process

If you want a job at Amazon, you’ll need to make it through a gauntlet of phone interviews and one-on-one sessions conducted by so-called “bar raisers,” participants in a voluntary, unpaid program that has them assessing the qualifications and cultural fit of as many as 10 prospective employees a week—all while doing their regular full-time jobs. Typically, evaluating each candidate takes five or six employees at least two hours each.  Read on.

Plaudits for Jack Andraka, the 16-year-old who created a prototype diagnostic test for cancer, have been nearly universal. His name, Forbes admits, was the most frequently suggested for the inclusion on the list. But after six top scientists who reviewed a draft of a paper that the prodigy plans to submit to a scientific journal were critical of the work, the publication decided not to feature precocious tech whiz.  Read more.

Facebook has acquired Bangalore-based startup Little Eye Labs, the maker of a tool that helps Android app developers to measure, analyze, and optimize their creations. Facebook sees enough benefit in the tool’s ability to visualize an app's behavior and estimate its power, memory, and network data consumption that the social media giant is moving the company—its first acquisition in India—to its California headquarters.  Read more.
