Welcome
Letter from Leah Jamieson

Hello, and welcome to the inaugural issue of IEEE Engaging the World.

This e-publication will highlight topics of world importance involving IEEE members who are striving to make the world a better place through engineering, technology, and computing. IEEE has recently embarked on a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative to improve the public's appreciation of the enormous contributions of our profession and our people.

Each newsletter will focus on a critical global issue and spotlight IEEE experts who are on the world stage "engaging the world" and making a difference. We will bring you topics and success stories on sustainable energy, sustainable world and earth observation, health care and biomedical engineering, security, and personalized education, among others.

We want to share these stories with the world and become the world's trusted source and forum for how engineering, computing, and technology benefit humanity. You can count on the newsletter to keep you informed of our progress.

On behalf of the entire IEEE Public Visibility Committee, I hope you enjoy this month's issue.

Best regards,
Leah H. Jamieson
