Membership Update
IEEE VTS New Fellow MembersóClass of 2016

The IEEE Fellow grade is used to recognize unusual distinction in the profession. Each year, a new class of IEEE Fellow awardees is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors. The number of new IEEE Fellows each year is limited to 1/10 of 1% of the IEEE voting membership. 

The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Fellow Evaluation Committee evaluates nominations for IEEE Fellow. The Vehicular Technology Society receives such nominations in portable and mobile communications, automotive electronics, and land transportation.  Accordingly, the VTS Fellow Evaluation Committee may change each year depending on the mixture of nominations received in each of the three technical areas.

Inkyu Lee, Korea University, South Korea

For contributions to multiple antenna systems for wireless communications

Inkyu Lee received the B.S. degree in control and instrumentation engineering from Seoul National University, South Korea, in 1990, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, California, in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He is currently a professor in the School of Electrical Engineering, Korea University, Seoul, South Korea. He has published over 110 journal papers with the IEEE, and has 30 U.S. patents granted or pending. His research interests include digital communications and signal processing techniques applied for next-generation wireless systems. He has served as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications. He was a chief guest editor of IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (Special Issue on 4G Wireless Systems) in 2006. He received numerous awards including the Best Young Engineer Award of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea in 2013.

 

Shaoqian Li, University of Electronic Science &
Technology of China, China

For leadership in development of broadband wireless networks

Shaoqian Li received the M.E. degree in information and communication systems from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, in 1984 and the B.Eng. degree in wireless engineering from Northwest Institute of Telecommunication Engineering (currently Xidian University), Xi’an, China, in 1981. He joined the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 1984. Currently, he is Professor at UESTC and Director of the National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Communications (formerly the National Key Lab of Communications), UESTC. His research interest include mobile and wireless communications, anti-jamming techniques for wireless communications, frequency-hopping techniques, cognitive radio and spectrum sharing technologies. He has co-authored two books and published more than 40 referred journal papers and 200 conference papers. He is inventor of more than 20 issued patents and more than 50 filed Chinese Patents. He has received the 2nd class National Award for Technological Invention of China in 2008 and the 2nd class National Award for Science and Technology Progress of China in 2007. He received the Innovation and Excellent Award for contribution to National Information Industrial, by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of P. R. China and Excellent Award for personal contribution to National High-Tech Development Program (863) of P. R. China from 2001–2005. Since the 1990s, he has served many domestic academic conferences as Senior member of the China Institute of Communications (CIC) and the Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE). And since 2001, he has served the International Conference on Communications, Circuits and Systems (ICCCAS), in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012, as Chair of Steering Committee, and/or General (co-) Chair, respectively. He also served as consultant Member of the Board of Communications and Information Systems of Academic Degrees committee of the State Council, P. R. China, and Member of the expert group of Key Project on Next-Generation Mobile Broadband Wireless Communications Systems towards 2020, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of P. R. China.

 

Lie-Liang Yang, University of Southampton,
United Kingdom

For contributions to multicarrier communications and wireless transceivers

Lie-Liang Yang received the B.Eng. degree in communications engineering from Shanghai TieDao University, Shanghai, China, in 1988 and the M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in communications and electronics from Northern Jiaotong University (now Beijing Jiaotong University), Beijing, China, in 1991 and 1997, respectively. From June 1997 to December 1997, he was a Visiting Scientist with the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague, Czech Republic. Since December 1997, he has been with the University of Southampton, Southampton, U.K., where he is currently a Professor of wireless communications with the School of Electronics and Computer Science. He has published more than 300 research papers in journals and conference proceedings, authored or coauthored three books, and published several book chapters. His research has covered a wide range of topics in wireless communications, networking, and signal processing. Prof. Yang is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON VEHICULAR TECHNOLOGY and the Journal of Communications and Networks and is currently an Associate Editor of the IEEE Access and the Security and Communication Networks.
