IEEE 5G is a new IEEE initiative that strives to address the challenges of next generation wireless technologies. VTS is actively involved in the IEEE 5G Initiative, with VTS delegates participating in its committees including its Steering Committee.
Along with these efforts, VTS co-sponsors a 5G-driven event—the IEEE Connected and Automated Vehicle Summit—held in Santa Clara, CA on 8 Feb 2018. Topics included autonomous driving, sensor fusion, deep learning, 5G, DSRC, LIDAR, radar, mapping, computing platforms, IoT, cloud, security, and societal impacts.
The Propagation Committee of VTS, chaired by David Michelson, aims to organize a workshop concerning mm-Wave and Channels at IEEE VTC2018-Fall in Chicago, as a follow-on to highly successful previous workshops held at IEEE VTC2016-Fall in Montreal and IEEE VTC2017-Fall in Toronto.
IEEE Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS), technically sponsored by VTS, is a good and successful example of VTS’ regional activities. Since its creation in 2004, APWCS has provided a technical platform to exchange the state-of-the-art technology, and to glimpse into the future of wireless communications technology with experts in the Asia Pacific region, with four sponsoring VTS chapters.
In 2018, VTS aims to launch a new regional conference in an IEEE geographical region that has fewer VTS members. The goal is to reach out to members and potential members of VTS, and to provide a technical platform to exchange knowledge and experience with experts in the region.
