Message from the EiC

Welcome to the July 2021 issue of VTS Mobile World – your IEEE Vehicular Technology Society newsletter.

This issue highlights some of the great recent work accomplished by VTS volunteers, our international colleagues, and collaborative partners who have pushed forward and upward, despite the many hardships we continue to endure during the pandemic.

VTC2021-Spring General Co-chair Jyri Hämäläinen recaps details of the event, held in April of this year. We also have IEEE VTM Senior Editor on Standards Edward Au report—as part of his role as IEEE TAB Committee on Standards Vice Chair—on new standards initiatives in automated vehicles.

Excerpts from the Mobile Radio column in the June 2021 issue of IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, and from recently published papers in the IEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology and IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, round out this edition.

As always, I am always available to hear your feedback; just send me a note at Richard.Yu@ieee.org.  Read More...

Knowledge in Vehicular Networking
Duncan Deveaux, Takamasa Higuchi, Seyhan Uçar, Jérôme Härri, and Onur Altintas

This article investigates the meaning and scope of knowledge as applied to vehicular networks, and defines a structure for vehicular knowledge description, storage, and sharing. Through the example of passenger-comfort-based automated driving, we expose the potential benefits of such knowledge structuring for network load and delay.  Read More...

Eavesdropping Attacks and Countermeasures
Abderrahmane Mayouche, Wallace Martins, Christos Tsinos, Symeon Chatzinotas, and Bjorn Ottersten

In this work, the authors consider secure communications in wireless multi-user (MU) multiple-input single-output (MISO) systems with channel coding in the presence of a multi-antenna eavesdropper (Eve), who is a legit user trying to eavesdrop on other users.  Read More...
