District education: Medicaid eligibility and impaired decision making
(NF administrator, ALMC, department head, nurse, social services, assisted living, home health)

The February District Meeting and Education features representatives from Iowa's Department of Human Services (DHS) and Department on Aging (IDA). The goal of the education is to get providers and state agencies working together to make processes more efficient and effective to provide better quality care and services for residents, tenants and patients. This 2-hour training is a must-attend for social service staff, nurses, department heads, administrators, assisted living managers, home health care staff.

Dawn Helm, with DHS, will discuss Medicaid approval qualifications, financial screening tools, minimizing the risk of eligibility denial and collection strategies, getting assistance for outstanding cases, preventing application process delays, and other Medicaid eligibility concerns.

Brian Majeski, with IDA's Office of Substitute Decision Maker (OSDM), will discuss the initiative helping assist and protect Iowans - including the frail and elderly - with impairments that compromise decision-making capacity, including Iowa-specific information on guardianship, conservatorships, the role of the function and scope of the OSDM, living wills, and elder abuse prevention and awareness.
