Don't forget DTMCU national online rally today

Participate: Credit union members and advocates from across the country are encouraged to light up social media in support of the "Don't Tax My Credit Union" campaign via Twitter and Facebook. Use the various Take Action tools at the Don't Tax My Credit Union website to show your support via tweets, pictures, vine videos, and emails to your members of Congress, all with the #DontTaxMyCU hashtag.

Watch: There will be an accompanying physical rally at Credit Union House in Washington, D.C. between 2 and 3 p.m. (EST). The rally will be streaming live at the Don't Tax My Credit Union website and on The Hill newspaper website.The physical rally at Credit Union House will feature several speakers, including Steve Pociask of the American Consumer Institute.

The event will be moderated by Paul Berry, award-winning journalist and radio and television personality in the Washington D.C. area--and long-time Governmental Affairs Conference MC--and also will feature remarks by Bill Cheney, Paul Gentile, Bill Hampel, John Magill, and Ryan Donovan of CUNA. Other participates, speakers, and interviews from all over the country will join in remotely using video conferencing.

Rep. Pafford elected incoming House Democratic leader
After disposing of Rep. Darryl Rouson of Tampa as their incoming leader two days earlier, House Democrats voted 29-12 last Wednesday night to elect Rep. Mark Pafford of West Palm Beach as their leader for 2014-2016. Read more here.

IRA Essentials & Advanced Training
IRA Essentials gives attendees a solid foundation of IRA knowledge. Exercises are included throughout the day to help participants apply information to job-related situations. Attendees will leave this session able to work with IRA owners and process basic IRA transactions with confidence.

Beyond Essentials builds on the attendees’ knowledge of IRA basics to address some of the more complex IRA issues their credit unions may handle. This is an advanced session; previous IRA knowledge is assumed. The instructor uses real-world exercises to help participants apply information to job-related situations.

BSA Training Workshops
Appropriate for frontline staff, lenders, officials, managers, and compliance officers this two and one half hour group-live workshop will discuss the new electronic filing requirements for Currency Transaction Reports and Suspicious Activity Reports.

This Bank Secrecy Act review will assist credit unions in keeping in compliance with annual training requirements. Some knowledge of BSA is assumed and no advanced preparation is necessary.

League community involvement


The Birmingham crew at the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sept. 29. The Birmingham office raised $2,000 for the event.
The Tallahassee office at the Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sept. 28. The League was the top team fundraiser, raising over $3,000 for Alzheimer's care, support, and research.

La Pine and Cheney to Visit Alabama Credit Unions

In late October, LSCU & Affiliates CEO Patrick La Pine and CUNA CEO Bill Cheney will make a number of visits across Alabama to listen to credit unions and talk about issues.
