NCUA unveils Spanish version of consumer website

From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. NCUA recognized the month by updating the Spanish version of MyCreditUnion.gov along with Pocket Cents.

“During the last two decades, the number of Spanish speakers in America has more than doubled. Today, more than 36 million Americans speak Spanish at home,” NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz said. “It is critical that these Spanish speakers have access to reliable resources for financial information. NCUA’s MyCreditUnion.gov and Pocket Cents provide consumers with timely and practical tips to assist them on their path to financial security. I encourage everyone to take full advantage of all the tools we have made available to them free of charge.”

MyCreditUnion.gov and its Spanish counterpart make it easy for consumers to learn more about saving, borrowing, and managing credit, as well as how to receive a free annual credit report and protect themselves from fraud.

LDC hotel date extended; rooms going fast

For credit unions planning to attend the Leadership Development Conference (LDC) next month in Point Clear, AL, you need to reserve your room today. The room block for the LDC, Nov. 5-8, has been extended through Oct. 18. However, the block is filling up quickly. The hotel is pretty much full outside of the League's block so waiting until the last minute might mean that you do not get a room.

The LDC features nine education sessions, an intimate exhibit hall, asset sized roundtables, great speakers like Jan Hargrave, a body language expert, and plenty of networking time. Attend the LDC this year and get equipped with leadership skills to bring back to your credit union.

CMN celebrates 30 years of helping children

The Children’s Miracle Network held its 30th anniversary CMN Celebration this week in Orlando. The festivities were held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and led by co-founders Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Mick Shannon, and Joe Lake. The celebration began on Wednesday with a reception for CMN corporate partners, hospital representatives, donors, and the guests of honor - the Champion children and their families. Credit Union for Kids (CU4Kids) is a major partner of CMN, raising more than $110 million and ranking third nationally in funds raised. Only Walmart and Costco raise more money than credit unions.

Alabama’s Champion is 14-year-old Naomi Pitts, who was successfully treated for anaplastic large cell lymphoma at Children’s of Alabama. Florida’s Champions are Jack and Luke Edwards, twin brothers who were treated at Wolfson Children’s Hospital for premature birth complications. Naomi, Jack, and Luke joined the other Champions for an inspiring Medal Ceremony on Wednesday and the Champions Pin Exchange today.

The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation Director Leonard Parkhurst attended along with LSCU & Affiliates President/CEO Patrick La Pine who is a member of the CU4Kids Advisory board.
