2014 Committee Weeks
The Florida Credit Union Association (FCUA) GA team is gearing up for a busy start to the new year. Next week kicks off the 2014 committee schedule, with state lawmakers returning to Tallahassee the weeks of Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Feb. 3, Feb. 10, and Feb. 17 before the 2014 Legislative Session begins on Tuesday, March 4. FCUA staff will continue to meet with legislators one-on-one to discuss public deposits, financial education, flood insurance, regulatory burdens, and other issues important to our credit union members, as well as attending committee meetings during this time.

InfoSight spotlight: Customer identification program

Section 326 of the USA Patriot Act sets forth minimum standards for financial institutions, including credit unions, for the identification and verification of the identity of any customer/member opening an account (12 CFR §103.121).

The written customer/member identification program (CIP):

  •     Must be a part of the CU’s anti-money laundering program
  •     Must be approved by the board
  •     Should be tailored to the CU’s size, location, and type of business

Members must be provided notice that the credit union is verifying their identity and why. The CIP must, at a minimum, provide for:

  •     Obtainment of certain basic identifying data
  •     Verification of the identity of each customer
  •     Maintenance of the information used to verify the identity
  •     Determination of whether the member appears on any lists of suspected terrorists provided by the federal government

League offices closed on New Year's Day

League offices in Birmingham and Tallahassee will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1 for New Year's Day. Both offices will reopen with normal business hours on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Additionally, due to the holiday, there will be no Wednesday edition of eSignal Daily. The eSignal Daily will continue on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The League wishes you, your family, and friends a very happy and safe start to 2014.
