Our big announcement is here: The LSCU AC&E is now the SCUCE

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates’ Annual Convention and Exposition (AC&E) is getting a makeover in 2014. The League’s AC&E has been rebranded as the Southeast Credit Union Conference and Expo (SCUCE). The LSCU & Affiliates is opening up the SCUCE to more than just credit unions from Alabama and Florida.

This year the SCUCE will focus on the Seven Cooperative Principles with the theme, “Living the Seven Cooperative Principles.” These are the principles that credit unions were founded on and the League believes are the strength of the credit union movement.

  • Voluntary membership
  • Democratic member control
  • Members economic participation
  • Autonomy and independence
  • Education, training and information
  • Cooperation among cooperatives
  • Concern for community

Many of the SCUCE’s education sessions will fall in line with the seven cooperative principles, as well as other major topics like interest rate risk, regulatory burden and lending.

The keynote speaker for the Southeast Credit Union Conference is one of college football’s all-time winningest coaches, Bobby Bowden. The former Florida State University coach will talk about how leadership can bring your credit union together under a common set of goals.

Data Breach Update
The House Subcommittee on Civil Justice temporarily postponed a bill dealing with the security of confidential personal information in order to get more input from affected groups. The GA team met with Chairman Metz's aide earlier this week to share the League's thoughts on the bill. Additionally, the League's governmental affairs team spoke with Attorney General Bondi's legislative director about the issue. The League will follow up with Rep. Metz again to see if it can get some more info on the direction of the bill. Also, the GA team been told that Sen. John Thrasher (R-Jacksonville) will be the Senate sponsor, so they will be meeting with him as well.

Redstone FCU loan officer is "The Price Is Right" contestant

Amber Latham, Redstone Federal Credit Union loan officer and "The Price Is Right" contestant, describes her "Come on down!" moment...

"I really didn't hear my name because it was so loud in the audience," Latham says. "But they had cue cards, so when I saw my first and last name I jumped up and I was like 'That is me!' and I was pushing everybody out of the way that was in my row. It was just crazy. 'Is this really happening?' I was rushing down the aisle and I was tapping everybody's hand I could reach that was on the outside of the aisle."

Latham continued, "I was jumping up and down with the person next to me for like 30 seconds and then we finally got it together."

Latham has been watching "The Price Is Right" since she was 6 years old. "I used to watch (the show) with my grandmother. I always wanted to be on 'The Price Is Right' but I never thought it would happen."

Latham is taking half a day off to watch her appearance on "The Price Is Right". If you want to catch Latham's debut as well, tune in today at 10:00 a.m. on Huntsville CBS affiliate WHNT 19, or, if you are not located in Hunstville, be sure to check out your local listings for channels and times.
