Campus USA announces new CEO

    Jerry Benton              Larry Scott

Campus USA Credit Union announced Friday that Larry Scott has retired as president and CEO after 23 years at the helm and will be replaced by the credit union's COO, Jerry Benton. Scott came to the credit union in 1990 after 20 years at a Birmingham, Ala., credit union. At the time, Campus USA was called Your Campus Federal Credit Union with three locations and $90 million in assets. Today, Campus USA, headquartered in Jonesville, has 15 locations, $1.2 billion in assets and 70,000 members.

“We couldn't be happier with the board's decision to select Jerry as my successor, after conducting a national search,” Scott said in a news release. “He is an excellent leader who is well respected in our industry, by our staff, and the communities we serve. He has been instrumental in our growth and success over the last 14 years.”

InfoSight spotlight: Authentication in an Internet Banking Environment
The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council Agencies (Agencies) issued guidance that provided a risk management framework for financial institutions offering Internet-based product and services to their members. It stated that institutions should use effective methods to authenticate the identity of customers and that the techniques employed should be commensurate with the risks associated with the products and services offered and the protection of sensitive customer information.

In 2011 the Agencies issued a supplement to the guidance which:
  • Reiterates and reinforces the expectations described in the 2005 Guidance that financial institutions should perform periodic risk assessments considering new and evolving threats to online accounts and adjust their customer authentication, layered security, and other controls as appropriate in response to identified risks
  • Establishes minimum control expectations for certain online banking activities and identifies controls that are less effective in the current environment
  • Identifies certain specific minimum elements that should be part of an institution’s customer awareness and education program

For more information, check out the Authentication in an Internet Banking Environment topic on the ACH/Electronic Payments channel of InfoSight.
