Florida Credit Union Association legislative update

The Security of Confidential Personal Information bill (SB 1524) by Sen. John Trasher (R- St. Augustine) will be heard in the Senate Rules Committee today. This bill would require a covered entity, which covers any corporation in Florida that collects any type of personal data, to notify the Attorney General's office should a breach occur, as well as any individual whose information was compromised.

Last week, an amendment changed the bill. While the majority of the bill is the same, there are some concerns that the changes may cause additional burdens on financial institutions. The GA team and several other interested parties have spent several days meeting with the sponsors to address these concerns. The League's GA team knows these concerns are being considered and are hopeful changes can be made to fix the legislation. If passed Wednesday, the bill heads to the Senate floor for a vote. The League will keep you informed of the bills progress.
