Since September, eCO Credit Union, based in Birmingham, has worked with three families to improve their financial pictures through the eCO Savings Race. During the eCO Savings Race, participants met with eCO coaches, completed Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, attended eCO Savings Race University courses, and documented their progress with blog posts. CBS 42 also followed the progress of the teams, allowing the community to participate and learn practical ways to improve their finances too.
The participants worked hard to set and meet goals throughout the race. From packing lunches to working side jobs, participants learned small changes can lead to big gains. On May 1, the Second Edition of the eCO Savings Race closed when the winner was announced live on CBS 42. The Dodd family was selected as the winners of the eCO Savings Race and recipient of $10,000! The other participants didn’t walk away empty handed. Along with an improved financial picture, each participant also received $2,000 to honor their efforts throughout the eCO Savings Race. In total, Savings Race participants improved their financial pictures by more than $75,000—bringing the financial picture improvement from the past two Savings Races to almost $120,000!
“As an educator’s credit union, the eCO Savings Race clearly displays our mission,” said eCO CEO, Joey Hand. “We even go a step farther than providing financial education; we also walk alongside members as they work to improve their financial situations.”
Starting May 5, eCO Credit Union will be accepting applications for families or individuals interested in participating in the Third Edition of the eCO Savings Race. Applications for the Third Edition of the eCO Savings Race are available in all eCO branches and online.
