RBC letters due tomorrow

Credit unions have one more day to submit a letter with their thoughts on the NCUA's risk-based capital rule. For the past two months, the League and CUNA have been educating credit unions on the proposal and providing resources to write the letter. Visit the LSCU Risk-Based Capital Resource page to see sample comment letters, a video explaining the rule with tips on writing the letter, and a calculator to see how the rule will affect your credit union.

On Friday, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) sent a letter to NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz urging her to listen to credit union thoughts on the proposed rule. The NCUA board has acknowledged that changes will need to be made on the proposed rule, but don't rest on your laurels. The NCUA needs to see that as many credit unions as possible will be adversely affected by the rule.

If you have any questions, contact LSCU VP of Compliance Training and Information Bill Berg at 866.321.0545 ext. 1028 or Director of Regulatory Affairs Scott Morris at ext. 2165.

A tradition of the THINK conferences, the 2014 meeting included charitable events for attendees on May 19 and May 22. Activities included a golf tournament, a New Orleans city tour, a Garden District tour, an “Airboat Swamp Romp,” a cooking demonstration of traditional New Orleans delicacies and “Miracle Jeans Day.” The amount contributed by participants totaled $13,000.

In addition, 1st United Services CU of Pleasanton, CA; Elevations CU of Boulder, CO; Mitchell, Stankovic, & Associates, Boulder City, NV; and  Vantage West CU of Tucson, AZ, made contributions totaling $3,500.

At the conference’s final General Session on May 22, event host CO-OP donated another $10,000. This is in addition to the $1 million CO-OP donates on behalf of its member institutions to Credit Unions for Kids fundraisers annually through the CO-OP Miracle Match program. TNS’ Keegan then stepped forward to present the check from TNS for $75,000 to CMN Hospitals. FIS made their $25,000 announcement at the conference’s Celebration Party held the previous evening.
